Keep Moving CIC is a Social Enterprise that aims to offer affordable exercise classes for people who are unfit or have medical conditions that can be improved by exercise.
It was set up in 2018 and currently has classes in County Durham, Burnopfield and Washington. We restarted our indoor programme in May 2021 with support from County Durham Community Foundation and The National Lottery Award for all.
Classes are £3.50 or you can buy a 10 class pass for £30 making the price of each class £3.00. YOUR FIRST CLASS IS ALWAYS FREE!!
Socialise
Keep Moving classes are a great way to meet people and socialise. In fact in our recent study of class members over 50% said it's one of their main reasons for attending!
Lifestyle
As part of a healthy lifestyle adults should aim to do at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity a week or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity exercise once a week to reduce the risk of ill health. We should also aim to sit less.
Exercise
The classes are varied and involve exercises that work different aspects of fitness, such as cardiovascular fitness, strength, balance and coordination.
All Ages and Abilities
Keep Moving classes are circuit based with different options on each station and last for 50 minutes. You work at your own pace and no matter what your age or ability the exercises can be adapted to your individual level!
Medical Condition Management
It's proven that exercise is beneficial in the management or prevention of medical conditions.
Exercise can reduce the chance of stroke or cardiovascular disease by as much as 35% and reduce the chances of developing Type 2 Diabetes by 50%. The list of medical conditions that exercise can be used to manage is endless including diabetes, asthma, arthritis (or joint pain), cancer as well as mental health conditions. Exercise releases endorphins and serotonin into your system these improve your mood!
